During a press discussion in Islamabad, Miftah Ismail said that households that are already part of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) will automatically receive Rs. 2,000 under the Prime Minister Sasta Petrol, while households that are not part of BISP can apply for the programme by sending their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number to 786 to check their eligibility.
Furthermore, he added that the CNIC should belong to a women as the subsidy under the Petrol Relief Package will only be transferred to a women head of the household, which has an income of less than Rs. 40,000. He said the subsidy amount was equal to five percent of these families’ total income, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. The Sasta Petrol with Rs. 2,000 subsidy is expected to benefit more than 14 million families across the country. However, it bears mentioning that 7.3 million of these were already registered under the BISP and the remaining families will have to send the message to 786 to apply for the Petrol Relief Package.
